From the plantation to the chocolate bar: The genesis of Cocoa Valley

Our chocolate is far more than a simple sweet delight: it is a commitment to quality, fair trade, and artisanal craftsmanship.

Our Values

At Cocoa Valley, our values—passion, flexibility, consistency, trust, and personal responsibility—extend beyond our products, their meticulous crafting, and our raw material sourcing. They are at the heart of all our relationships: with our clients, suppliers, cocoa growers, and team members. All share with us the same passion for excellence and commitment to our craft.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create exceptional chocolates by combining Swiss artisanal expertise with rigorously selected raw materials. We are committed to fostering sustainable and ethical relationships with all our partners. Innovation and passion guide our approach to meet the standards of artisans and preserve our heritage. Responsibility, flexibility, and consistency are at the core of our daily actions.

Chocolate Love Story

Between Cameroon and Switzerland, Cocoa Valley founders Carine and Serges Ngassa have woven an ethical chocolate supply chain from the ground up. Today, their work honors Cameroonian cultivation by offering exquisite chocolate, produced entirely without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Witnessing firsthand how a lack of opportunity drives young people from Cameroon’s countryside, Serges and Carine established a cocoa plantation in 2011—rooted in tradition and respect for nature. Located in the West (Sanki Valley) and Centre (Ayos) regions, their vision was clear from the start: this would be more than a business—it would be a human adventure.

It all began with a farm. For months, this space became more than a place of work—it united dedicated local teams and produced natural fertilizers from farm-raised pigs nourished with homegrown corn, enriching the land in a sustainable cycle of care.

Cocoa Valley: Excellence Through Balance

To bring their project to life, Serges sought guidance from elders. He learned that cacao trees need shade and decided to plant banana trees to help them thrive. This permaculture approach, guided by their agronomist, maintains a natural ecosystem while providing local communities with work that respects their traditions and nature. The banana leaves are also used during bean fermentation, and the farm’s employees enjoy the bananas as food.

With the help of an aeronautical engineer, they designed special fermentation boxes and dryers to help the beans fully develop their flavors and aromas during this essential phase.

Beyond these seemingly simple details lies the core philosophy of the project: the quality of life of the employees significantly impacts the quality of their work. Today, 52 people work daily on the plantations, supported by 200 to 250 seasonal workers during peak harvest periods.

Now, 14 years after the project began in Cameroon, the cacao trees have reached maturity. The farm has just completed its seventh harvest, yielding over 120 tons of cocoa beans.

Cocoa Valley Today: From Bean to Bar

Cocoa Valley unveils the excellence of Cameroonian cocoa through chocolate produced without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, celebrating farming practices that honor the environment.

Our Farm to Bar philosophy ensures complete quality control from bean to bar. This artisanal process, supported by specialized equipment, preserves the authentic aromas and guarantees exceptional chocolate.

Every ingredient reflects our eco-conscious commitment: PGI organic hazelnuts from Piedmont, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, and organic milk and cane sugar. We partner with producers who share our values of respect for both people and the planet.

A pioneer in its field, Cocoa Valley is one of the few chocolate houses to master the entire supply chain—from farmer to chocolatier. After 12 years of permaculture in Cameroon, we opened our first Swiss production facility in Vétroz in 2023.

In 2025, a new Cocoa Valley manufactory will open in the canton of Vaud. Our entire team looks forward to welcoming you there, inviting you to discover the sensory and passionate world of exceptional chocolate in the heart of our boutiques.
